The Airedale Terrier IS the King of the Terriers. The Airedale holds this title for several reasons?the first being its size. The Airedale can grow as large as 70 pounds, larger than any other terrier breed. Another reason is the country it originates from?England. The most well known monarchy in the world should have a dog all its own ? and the Airedale is proud to hold that title.

Temperament

From the time the Airedale is a puppy, its intelligence is very apparent. Its ability to learn and the speed at which it takes to obedience training is almost unequaled. This king of the breed takes to being a guard dog, a watchdog and a playmate with equal abandon. Herding is also a favorite pastime for this odd-looking creature.

Appearance of the Airedale

Like most terriers, the Airedale has a coarse coat on top of a softer undercoat. Shedding is not an issue with this breed though some skin conditions can arise in some lines. Even though shedding is not a major issue, regular clipping is required as the Airedale's wiry coat can get easily tangled.
